Jayaram was an eminent leader in Mandya district. Coming from a very rural and humble background of a lower middle class family, whose father was a surveyor, he fought till his last breath for the upliftment of the downtrodden and the suppressed classes especially those of the poor farmers. 28th Aug 1950 Though he was not good at studies, had good leadership qualities and abilities of a very good organizer. Due to reasonable circumstances, he could not complete his graduation and had to discontinue his studies. His first political experiment was that, he contested for municipal elections and was unsuccessful without even getting the deposit, and later on he joined the Karnataka state royts(farmers') association and became a popular leader among the masses. Impressed by his organizational abilities Mr. Devegowda invited him to join the main stream politics, on this invitation he joined the JANATA PARTY and thus begun his political career. In 1985, He contested for assembly elections successfully and won the best legistator award among 224 legislators. He was defeated in the year 1989 and won once again to become the mines and geology minister. He died an untimely death as a minister living behind thousands of followers and unfinished dreams. He was a sincere, honest and a committed man. He was secular, he always condemned the discrimination based on caste community or religion.

To carry forward his dreams SDJ-IRDF was started in Mandya in the year 2004 Prabhavathi Jayram Ex MLA Mandya Ashok Jayram BE who is proceeding to united states to the university of North Carolina to do his MBA Programme in social Entrepreneurship and Anuradha Jayaram.
